Parasyte, are humans really that bad?
Parasyte, are humans really that bad? The premise behind Parasyte is this..On Earth someone thought…..”if, there were half the number of humans, how many fewer forest
would burn?” On Earth someone once thought….”if there was one human for every hundred,
then the poison they would give off would be that much less.” Someone again once thought….”we all
must protect future life.” So let me ask you this, what does that make humans? The victim or
the villain? Welcome to Parasyte and a descriptive albeit quick review!
Meet Shinichi Izumi,
In Parasyte, Shinichi seems like your typical average teenager…
He lives at home with his parents, goes to school, makes average grades, but he has one not so typical secret. I introduce Migi he’s
an alien parasite who’s smart, logical, and adaptable. Migi (which literally means right in
Japanese ) is Shinichi’s right hand after a failed attempt to enter his brain. In volume 1 of
Parasyte you’ll join Shinichi and Migi on the journey of discovery as with each page they find out
a little more about themselves, while at the same time, they come to find they’re not the only
ones who has garnered alien adaptations.
Parasyte is a sci-fi horror manga that no doubt is filled with gruesome violent death scenes at
first glance. Deep down, it’s an anime that answers the age old classic question “are we alone in the
universe?” While at the same time giving a great example of how other intelligent life forms may view
the human race and how our actions can contradict what we say. In one scene Shinichi calls
Migi and his race a bunch of monsters for what they’re doing to humans. If I could paraphrase Migi
replies
“Shinichi my kind eats for survival while your kind kills each other with no benefits. If
monsters do exist it would be humans”.
Mind you Migi reads a lot and takes in what he sees from his environment while giving the most
logical answer in any situation. This indeed makes him seem alien but you’d never know the difference in line of thinking. You’ll see
his line of thinking. It would be hard to not appreciate his logic on that which is the human plight. You’ll see
dialogue and ponderings like this throughout the manga not only from Migi but his fellow parasites such as Mr.
A and Reiko Tamura as they both give their insights on the human species. Also, *Spoiler Alert*, pay attention
to how Migi’s thinking is slowly influencing Shinichi. There’s no doubt Hitoshi Iwaaki drew
inspiration from Jack Finney’s 1955 novel The Body Snatchers. One more thing before this
review is done if you haven’t watched the anime adaptation Parasyte The Maxim read the
manga first. Typically the manga version is slightly better because it’s uncut and conveys the
views without fillers. Also, don’t skip the Q&A at the back of book. You’ll be
intrigued at how Hitoshi thinks.
I purchased a digital copy of Parasyte through Amazon for $4.99
and can’t wait to read the next volume.
One Punch Man – A Quick Overview You’ll Appreciate!
Everyone wants to know why Goku can’t best One Punch Man…
Did we actually say that…
We meant to say, why we feel as though this is a fight that must be analyzed..
Which will be thoroughly done early next month..but for now.. we wanted to give a quick overview as to why every Shonen based Anime fan should at least check out “One Punch Man” the anime and manga!
Let’s begin..
In a land far far away, that is pretty much unknown, there’s a city…..In this city there’s heroes that stand for justice, and battle the forces of evil. Among these superheroes that stands for justice and battles the forces of evil are the especially powerful heroes . There is one especially extraordinary hero that can slay all foes before him, with ease.
Who is this man… could he be the reincarnated Dragon – Bruce Lee?
The being that doesn’t fear anything, but fear himself? Is he in fact a descendant of a certain warrior race? Honestly we don’t know yet but we do know his name is Saitama aka Caped Boldy…aka One Hit Army…aka Knockout King…bka….One-Punch Man… the anime produced by Viz Media based on the web comic turned manga created by One.
It’s the new anime on the block that’s hitting ass , left and right!!!
Its a complete action packed to the max with big budget fight scenes anime that will leave you punching for more. Now some people will be reminded of an anime that begins with the letter D and ends with letter Z. But to me that’s where the comparison ends!! The show is not only action packed but filled with non forgettable humor and witty banter. Matter of fact, Saitama’s origin story sounds like an opening to a pretty interesting joke. So hey this big chin(ass chin) kid ,half crab killiing, supposed human, and a middle class worker’s mentality type individual walks into a bar to raise up trouble and sure enough through out the story, that’s exactly what happens. His story and almost satire back end creates good ingredients that play into him being a hero.
Not to mention stand alone characters like Genos the cyborg, who’s Saitama’ disciple and side kick, also plays key roles in the anime/manga thus far. Though Genos may not look it, sarcasm, he too carries a hefty punch with him. The pacing of the story doesn’t feel rushed or slow, but indeed just right. You will not stand idle and bored while reading this Shonen based manga or watching the anime. Now the only thing that works as a double edged sword for me is that Saitama hasn’t had a real challenge yet which explains his personality once you start watching which is somewhat lackadaisical at times. But, I’ve watched enough to tell it’s building towards something spectacular. I’m ok with knowing that it’ll eventually happen…the part where he actually fights someone that doesn’t take one punch to defeat…but instead I’m just enjoying the one hit punch man band until then and the build up of characters, plot and story until then..
But the question still remains on Shonen fans globally? Is he a match for the legendary Kakkarott! The one who has saved the universe countless time for Akira Toriyama.
A true analytical article is forth coming as well as a “Flawless Victories” battle..
Stay tuned!!
Prison School – Students can be prisoners!
Hormones are chemical messengers that are secreted directly into the blood in blood which carries
them to organs and tissues of the body to exert their functions. There are many types of
hormones that act on different aspects of bodily functions and processes. Some of these functions and processes
include development and growth. That’s the general definition of hormones according to
Google anyway…. So tell me what happens to these hormones when you place five teenage boys
in a with no social skills what so ever when they’re placed in a once previous all girls school?
I’ll tell you, those hormones get desperate, and sometimes desperate times call for
perverted solutions. What kind of plan of action fits the needs of young men?..,. Peeping of course
in the girls changing room.
The boys are found, while in the act by the masses, tortured and punished to in school suspension. But
this isn’t any old school suspension. It’s like no others, matter of fact it’s more like a prison.
This is where the tale begins………..
Prison school based off Kangoku Gakuen manga and illustrated by Akira Hiramoto, is a fun, exciting, thrilling
and strangely heart warming tale that also warms other parts of the human anatomy. But, we’ll get to that in a
minute.
Prison school has everything you’d expect from a traditional prison story. I’m talking
about your camaraderie among inmates, nude shower scenes, guards taking advantage of
inmates, plus your all around pervert bate that brings it all together and man is it perverted let
me tell you….
.
Wait hmmmm how can I tell you without being graphic….
I can’t honestly….
The scenes are that good that I shouldn’t actually…
When I first start watching prison school, all I was expecting nothing more then a funny
feeling in my pants judging by googled images. But, as you watch I think some will feel for the characters after seeing their
hardships no pun intended almost as one would feel for the character “Andy Dufrane” from the
movie “Shaw Shank Redemption”. There is a lot going on in prison school. The characters are colorful and very tasteful and ultimately, the show is what it is! Funny, sexy, edgy, but also tastefully done would be describe Prison School. It’s a 12 part series but it feels more like a 24 part series or more.
Umaru Vs. Kirino
Recently I asked people on Twitter what they considered to be the funniest anime of 2015 and one of the more popular answers given was the Doga Kobo produced series Himouto! Umaru-chan. When it was released this past summer I vaguely recall some people talking about it but then it kind of went away and I forgot all about it until people started mentioning it as the funniest anime of the year. So I watched it. All of it. In one day.
Now, I’m going to be very honest and say that I didn’t dislike this series. It had some cute and clever moments but to call it the funniest series of the year is overshooting the mark by quite a bit and a big reason for that is the main character. In the continuing spirit of being honest let’s not beat around the bush – Umaru is a two-faced, manipulative brat that ruined what could’ve been an otherwise fun otaku comedy. Yes, she was funny at times but for the most part she was just plain mean and a completely unsympathetic heroine.
Here’s the thing though; Umaru isn’t a completely unique character type. There have been tons of cute but manipulative female otaku characters over the last few years. There have even been cute but manipulative female otaku characters that I’ve really enjoyed seeing and watching such as Kirino Kousaka from OreImo. So what makes her different from Umaru that I can tolerate one character of this type but not the other? Let’s break it down…
First off, let’s address the point of sympathy. Umaru is not a sympathetic character. At no point do her actions make you feel bad for her situation or place in life. Yes, both her and Kirino are model students and secret otaku but the difference between them is that Kirino has a genuine desire to connect with other people and share her hobby with others while Umaru is completely anti-social when it comes to her hobbies. Kirino is lonely, Umaru is happy to just hang out with and abuse her older brother for giggles.
Abuse is a pretty big connecting factor between these two characters as well. Kirino literally slaps her brother awake in order to ask him for advice and Umaru regularly pounces on her older brother because she wants him to buy her something. Once again though, it goes back to sympathy. Kirino doesn’t know how to connect with her brother so she abuses him as a substitute. Umaru is perfectly well aware of how to connect with her brother but chooses to abuse him simply because she can get away with it.
This leads into another point where the two characters are completely different: Kirino is self sufficient and Umaru is a sponge who refuses to pull her own weight. Thanks to her successful modeling career, Kirino is able to pay for her own hobby and does so with pride. On the other side of the spectrum is Umaru who relies to her brother to buy her everything and will even go so far as to demand that he buy her things like manga magazines and video games.
The last thing that separates the two characters are their friends. In the case of Umaru, she is easily the least interesting character in the series and really should’ve been a supporting character at best. In reality, any one of Umaru’s friends could’ve been the star of the series and it would’ve made for a much more entertaining viewing. Kirino may be a bitch but at least she was interesting and had some depth to her which made her stand out against her friends.
This isn’t the last time we’re going to see this character type appear in an anime series. We are going to see this come up time and time again in the future. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing as it’s perfectly possible to come up with a female otaku who is a bitch but is still likeable in one way or another; Umaru is just not a great example of how to do that.
